Product
A shop that keeps selling when the internet does not.
Shamlai is shop management software for Bangladeshi retailers: counter, stock, supplier dues, customer ledgers and profit reporting in one place. It runs at the edge, and the counter keeps working when the connection drops.
The problem
Most shop software assumes a connection.
A counter does not stop because the router blinked. Yet most retail systems write every sale to a server, so an outage becomes a queue, then a paper pad, then a reconciliation problem at midnight.
Shamlai was built the other way round: the sale is written locally, the receipt prints, the stock moves. The record syncs when the network returns, with duplicate protection so nothing is counted twice.
Capability
What it does.
Six parts of the product that do the daily work; everything else supports them.
Counter and orders
Point of sale, order pipeline and returns in one screen, with cash, card and mobile money.
Stock that reconciles
Purchases, suppliers, adjustments and low-stock alerts tied to the same ledger as sales.
Accounts in the same system
Customer dues, supplier payables, expenses and profit per item, not per guess.
Offline by design
Sales, receipts and stock movements continue without a network, then sync with duplicate protection.
Staff with limits
Per-staff logins, role permissions, and cost prices hidden from the counter.
An assistant that knows the shop
Ask about stock, dues or the day’s takings, and dictate entries instead of typing them.
Engineering
How it is built.
Three decisions that shape the product, and the stack that carries them.
Local first, server second
The counter reads and writes to a local store. The network is a synchroniser, not a dependency.
One ledger for money and stock
Sales, purchases, dues and expenses post to the same structure, so profit is derived rather than typed.
Boring infrastructure, owned end to end
One Cloudflare account holds the database, media and scheduled jobs. There is no server to patch at two in the morning.
Stack
Deployed at the edge, with D1 as the source of truth and R2 for media. Every push to main runs type checks, the test suite and database migrations before it ships.
